Balanced Scorecard

Introduction
Effective Performance measurement in business organisations has been a fundamental issue of interest to practicing managers. Among various ways and means used to achieve this purpose successfully, innovative approaches such as the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) have gained importance apart from the traditional budgeting in the current business arena.

Programme Content

• The background to the emergence of the Balanced Scorecard (BSC)
• Understanding the BSC and its importance
• Diffusion of BSC in general, and in Sri Lanka in specific
• Why do some BSC projects succeed, while others fail?
• Does every organisation need a BSC?

Outcome

At the end of this programme the participants would be able to realise the need of a BSC, and would gain the knowledge on how it could be practiced successfully in an organisation.

Ms. Tharusha N Gooneratne
M.Phil. (Col), BBA (Col), Reading for Ph.D. (Latrobe, Australia), ACMA

Tharusha N Gooneratne holds a Master of Philosophy Degree and Bachelor of Business Administration Special Degree (1st Class), from the University of Colombo. She is also an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (ACMA) UK, and is currently reading for her Ph.D. at the Latrobe University, Australia. She is a Senior Lecturer in Management Accounting at the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Colombo. Before joining the University of Colombo, she was attached to John Keells Holdings, Colombo. She has written several articles for international journals on the areas of Qualitative Research in Accounting and Management and Advances in Public Interest Accounting. She has also co-authored a number of conference papers. Tharusha is a lecturer with specialisation in the areas of Management Accounting and Management Control and also a researcher in the current developments in Management Accounting.
